We are in the process of recruiting a medical receptionist for a healthcare team. based in Fairfax, Virginia This role offers a short-term contract employment opportunity.
You will be responsible for greeting patients and visitors, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and managing patient records accurately and confidentially. Additionally, you may also check patients in and out, handle billing processes, and collect payments. Other duties include monitoring office supplies, keeping the reception area clean and organized, and provide excellent customer service. You must have a strong understanding of medical terminologies and possess excellent communication, administrative, and organizational skills. This role often requires a high degree of discretion due to the sensitive nature of medical information.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Managing appointment scheduling for patients, including sending reminders and handling cancellations or rescheduling.
· Greeting patients upon arrival, checking them in, and providing necessary guidance.
· Providing interpretations and translations for Spanish-speaking patients to facilitate effective communication between them and the healthcare staff.
· Handling administrative tasks such as filing, photocopying, transcribing, and faxing.
· Managing incoming and outgoing calls while providing detailed information when needed.
· Ensuring the reception area remains clean and well organized.
· Assisting with the processing of patient's medical records in compliance with privacy laws.
· Participating in healthcare team meetings and collaborating with the medical staff for smooth operations.
Requirements
+ Previous experience working as a receptionist, particularly in a medical setting, is often preferred.
+ Proficiency in using computer systems is necessary, including knowledge of medical software, spreadsheets, and word processing
+ You must possess good listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
+ The job demands managing multiple tasks simultaneously, such as scheduling appointments, filing paperwork, and handling patient queries.
+ You must possess excellent customer service skills, as you are the first point of contact for patients visiting the hospital or clinic.
+ Understanding medical terms and jargon is beneficial in this role to accurately record and convey information.
+ You should be detail-oriented to ensure all medical records, billing information, and appointment schedules are accurate and up to date.
+ Dealing with patients, especially those who are sick or distressed, requires a great deal of empathy and patience.
+ Complying with patient confidentiality laws, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), is crucial.
+ You should demonstrate professionalism, as they represent the medical care facility they work for.
+ The job could involve many responsibilities that need to be executed in a timely manner. Thus, having good time management skills is a pre-requisite.
